I’m feeling The Sadness of the Rose
Dorian Gray’s vanity comes to mind as well. I’m not comfortable comparing myself to him… I couldn’t be more different from that personage’s depiction. But it is there, a drop of sadness and awareness, lurking in the muddy shadows.
